Empowering the Next Generation: Announcing the 2026 Texas Robotics Academic Conference (TRAC)

As we move further into 2026, the landscape of the Texas workforce is shifting beneath our feet. From the automated logistics hubs in Dallas to the burgeoning aerospace corridors of South Texas, “emerging technology” is no longer a buzzword—it is the baseline requirement for the next generation of Texas leaders.

However, a critical gap remains. While technology evolves at an exponential rate, our classrooms often face an uphill battle to keep pace. To bridge this divide, TxSTEMed and the Buccaneers Commission are proud to announce the 2026 Texas Robotics Academic Conference (TRAC), taking place May 1–2 as a premier feature of the iconic Buc Days festival in Corpus Christi.

Why Texas Needs to Do Better

The statistics are clear: Texas is a global economic powerhouse, yet we face a significant “middle-skill” and high-tech talent shortage. According to recent data:

  • The Skills Gap: While nearly 56% of the Texas labor market consists of middle-skill occupations (jobs requiring more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree), only 42% of Texas workers currently have the required training to fill them.

  • STEM Growth: STEM-related occupations in Texas are projected to grow by over 10% through 2033, far outpacing the growth of non-STEM roles.

  • Teacher Support: In 2025-2026, Computer Science and Technology Applications remain designated as “Critical Shortage Areas” by the Texas Education Agency.

We cannot expect students to lead in robotics, AI, and autonomous systems if their educators aren’t given the tools and time to master these technologies themselves. Upskilling our teachers isn’t just a professional development goal—it is a statewide economic imperative.

More Than a Conference: A Hands-On Skills Lab

TRAC is designed specifically for educators in the Corpus Christi metro area and across Texas who are ready to move beyond theory and get their hands dirty. This isn’t a “sit and listen” event; it is a “build and succeed” experience.

What to Expect:

  • Hands-on Skill Building: Intensive workshops where you will work directly with VEX Robotics and Aerial Drones.

  • Expert Insights: Keynote speakers and panel sessions featuring industry leaders who are currently defining the Texas tech landscape.

  • Networking: Join “Cohort 1,” a dedicated group of forward-thinking educators and industry partners collaborating to build a stronger STEM ecosystem.

  • Certification: All participating educators will receive a Certificate of Completion for 8 hours of hands-on STEM skills training, applicable toward professional development requirements.

Join Us at Buc Days

There is no better backdrop for innovation than the energy of Buc Days. By integrating TRAC into this historic festival, we are signaling to the community that STEM education is at the heart of our region’s future.

While you are building your own skills, you’ll also have the opportunity to witness the inaugural TRAC student competition events, including VEX IQ, V5, and Aerial Drone competitions, seeing firsthand the “end result” of the technologies you are bringing back to your classroom.
